Overview

The MPC7E-MRATE is a fixed-configuration MPC (Modular Port Concentrator) designed by Juniper Networks for their MX Series routers.

 

Specifications

  • Port Speeds: The MPC7E-MRATE supports 10-Gbps, 40-Gbps, and 100-Gbps port speeds.
  • Throughput:
  • On MX240, MX480, and MX960 routers, it provides a line-rate throughput of up to 480 Gbps.
  • On MX2000 routers with SFB (Switch Fabric Board), it offers up to 400 Gbps throughput.
  • On MX2000 routers with SFB2, it achieves up to 430 Gbps throughput.
  • Port Configuration:
  • It features twelve Gigabit Ethernet ports that can be configured as:
  • 40-Gigabit Ethernet ports or
  • Four 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports using a breakout cable.
  • Four out of these twelve ports can be configured as 100-Gigabit Ethernet ports.
  • Port Labeling:
  • The ports are labeled as follows:
  • 10-Gigabit Ethernet or 40-Gigabit Ethernet ports: 0/0, 0/1, 0/2, 0/3, 0/4, 0/5, 1/0, 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, and 1/5.
  • 100-Gigabit Ethernet ports: 0/2, 0/5, 1/2, and 1/5.
  • Rate Selectability: The ports can be configured at different speeds, with the default being 10-Gigabit Ethernet.

  • For host-bound packets: 256 bytes through 9,500 bytes.
  • Temperature and Altitude Tolerance:
  • On MX960 routers, the MPC7E-MRATE can operate in any MPC slot at an ambient temperature of up to 40°C and at any altitude.
  • All MPC slots can be occupied by an MPC7E-MRATE line card at temperatures of up to 55°C and at sea level.
  • At an ambient temperature above 55°C, slot 11 cannot host MPC7E-MRATE line cards.
